Badoo Tech - A Developer Storytelling Platform
Overview
Badoo Tech is a dedicated blog platform created for the engineering and tech teams at Badoo to share insights, tutorials, and learnings from working on one of the world’s largest dating services. I designed the website with a focus on clean layout and content prominence, enabling technical articles to stand front and centre.
Problem
Engineering and product teams often accumulate valuable tacit knowledge, but it’s rarely captured in a format that’s both public and engaging. At Badoo, the goal was to create a technical storytelling hub where developers could share deep dives, lessons, and community insights, boosting employer brand, fostering team knowledge exchange, and elevating the team’s voice in the tech ecosystem.
Objective: Design a platform that highlights content readability, supports diverse article length and formats, and feels intuitive for both writers and readers
Audience & Insights
Key stakeholders and audiences included:
Internal engineers and product teams: Primary contributors and reviewers.
Technical job candidates: Potential hires exploring Badoo’s engineering culture.
Broader tech community: Engineers and leaders looking for real-world insights from a major tech product.
Design insight: The platform needed to communicate clarity, simplicity, and trustworthiness, technical content should be the hero, without distraction.
Key Features & Deliverables
Clean article templates supporting varied content types (text, code snippets, images).
Structured blog home page with article previews and clear navigation.
Responsive design that adapts gracefully from desktop to mobile.
Scalable layout patterns for long-form content.
Outcomes & Impact
While not a commercial product, Badoo Tech served several key purposes:
Amplified engineering voice: Developers could publicly share knowledge and experiences.
Employer brand enrichment: Showcased Badoo’s engineering culture and expertise to the wider tech community.
Internal knowledge base: Helped teams formalise and preserve lessons learned across projects.
